A place to stand

So I must first off admit that I am not quite as intelligent and thoughtful as the Greek title of my blog states. I came across a list of Greek phrases on wikipedia and I thought this one by Archimedes was an appropriate one for this blog. The English translation of the phrase is, "Give me a place to stand and I will move the earth."

I chose that phrase for a few reasons. The first is that using Greek is always a means of vainly sounding more intelligent than you actually are. However, in a more serious tone, our society seems to push men into a "stand-down" one. Allow me to explain. The postmodern elite believe that the traditions and values which have guided civilization through the ages are irrelevant because truth in and of itself is relative to the individual. Values such as honor, loyalty and integrity come in a distant second place to the concept of a radical individualized ethic.

However, a general principle of non-violence and non-intervention is happily agreed on by many post-modernists. I believe that the ideas of "nice guys" who always back down and become doormats to society stems directly from the devaluation of these values. Men are told to no longer yearn to fight for honor, loyalty and integrity. If we are attacked, we are to stand down, if the women we should be swearing to protect are mugged or raped, we are to accept it as quiet gentlemen and allow law enforcement to sort the details afterwards.

To paraphrase William F. Buckley Jr., it's time for men to stand athwart history yelling stop. At least that's my hope for this blog. I'm sure I'll do plenty of yelling, but it's my desire to stand shoulder to shoulder with true men and to change the world around us. Enjoy!
